Coaching

SailFest is about far more than racing with plenty of opportunity to learn and improve techniques through coaching and workshops.  The Friday preceding the Racing Regatta is set aside as a training day, which almost a third of the fleet attended in 2013.  With video camera footage to review ashore and top level coaches, sailors are invited to learn about local conditions as well as general race technique and venue acclimatisation.

James Royston is one of the confirmed coaches for the event, and will be available throughout the racing, from Saturday to Monday.  With a wealth of coaching experience, particularly in Lasers, James has also spent time as a training partner forthe ISAF youth GBR Byte representative. James Gray has worked with him throughout his coaching career and gives this glowing resume: "James Royston is one of the hottest young prospects in UK Laser Coaching.  James enjoyed good success in the Laser Standard where he was members of both the RYA Laser Youth Squad and British Sailing Team Development Squads.  The time on the water, knowledge, and expertise that he gained during this time culminated in James being selected as one of the team members to represent Team GBR at the ISAF World Sailing Championships held in Cascais, Portugal in 2007.  I have had the pleasure of coaching with James over the past 7 years.  He is currently very involved in the RYA Youth program as coach within the Laser Pathway.  Having coached alongside James on numerous occasions and witnessed his many strengths I would single him out as being Knowledgable, Approachable, and Enthusiastic about sailing and coaching.  I hope that you can enjoy a valuable coaching experience under the guidance of James."

Coaching support will be available throughout the racing days with video camera footage to review after racing as well as on the coaching day.  SailFest even includes the modification to the sailing instructions that the on-the-water coaches are able to offer tips and advice during the regatta to those who would benefit whilst on the water for the 3 days of racing.
