Racing

SailFest14 is focussed around a 3-day Dinghy Sailing Regatta from Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th August. Entry to the regatta for the 3 days is £69 for singlehander dinghies and £79 for doublehanders. This is preceded by an optional coaching day on Friday 22nd August which is £39 per boat. In addition to the regatta there are a some special sailing activities taking place, aside from the numerous taster lessons that can be booked over the 4 days of the event. Icon Match Racing will feature close to shore after regatta racing each day and there will be the opportunity to try Radio Controlled Yacht Racing based on the outdoor freshwater pool.

The SailFest Sailing Regatta

In 2013, SailFest hosted National and Area Championships for certain classes, with fleet results extrapolated from the overall score.  If your class is interested in making SailFest 14 one of your major events, please contact SailRacer so we can discuss how we can make SailFest a success for you too.

Multi-Class Racing - Saturday & Sunday

Saturday and Sunday will see multi class racing, scored over average laps on a big course.  The Regatta fleet will be split into suitable PY Handicap rating bands and classes with sufficient entries will be given their own fleet start.

At the organisers discretion the ‘Great Lakes’ PY numbers may be used throughout the event, reflecting the similar fleet dynamics to the large-event winter-series racing.

Long Distance Pursuit Race - Bank Holiday Monday

The Racing Regatta will culminate with a long-distance pursuit race on Bank Holiday Monday. The points for this race will be non-discardable for the overall regatta result – it has to be counted even if enough races are sailed to allow discards.

In the 2013 edition of SailFest the Raymarine Long Distance pursuit Race was won by Byte sailor Mike Radford who just held on long enough to beat the rapidly approaching International 14 of the overall SailFest13 winners Sam Pascoe & Alex Knight.

Icon Cup Match Racing

The Icon Match racing Series will make its UK debut at GJW Direct SailFest 14, bringing match racing to a new audience and increasing the accessibility of this particular sailing discipline.

After each day of multi class racing at SailFest, there will be match racing using the Icon dinghy, an ideal choice, providing a modern 2 person boat, that is highly manoeuvrable and quick to accelerate, but not too extreme allowing the competitors to concentrate on their duelling and combats.  SailRacer will provide live GPS tracking and online commentary, and with racing close to the shore the Icon Series will be very spectator friendly.

More details here...

Entry to the match racing event is free, but please register your interest here on the SaiFest event site as places are limited.

Radio Controlled Yacht Racing

Dragon Force will be demonstrating their radio-control yachts in the outdoor swimming pool at Calshot which is situated near the top of the launching slipway (do note that the pool is not available for swimming at any time during the event).

A series of mini races will be run, subject to weather conditions, and a small charge will apply for trialling the RC yachts.

More details and a timetable will appear here very soon, so watch this space!
