A navigation rally is similar to orienteering but on the water. Boats travel a set course of 10 to 12 Nautical Miles at a constant speed and complete the course in just over an hour. At checkpoints around the course the target time for each boat is compared to the actual time of arrival. The winner is the boat that gets closest to their predicted or target times.
