We are looking for race-management support for GJW Direct SailFest 15, the 3rd edition of this established event. I would be grateful for any expression of interest in being involved yourself and welcome your feedback and details of anyone else you think I should be making contact with.
The event will be run under the title of Fun 'On the Water' with British Sailing at GJW Direct SailFest15
The dates are Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th May 2015.
British Sailing have decided to designate the event their BMF 'On the Water' activity for 2015. Members of British Sailing were at SailFest14 and see it as a great match to the objectives of not only increasing participation (that great buzz-word of the moment) but they were impressed by the potential to encourage family sailing and FUN on the water.
On the eve of SailFest (Friday 22nd May) the British Sailing Summit will also be held at Calshot, based on the long-established International Sailing Summit (iss.sailracer.org)
The Devoti D-Ones and the Rooster 4000s have both put the event on their calendars - nicely matched for asymmetric sailing and lots of colour. We would be looking at running the main racing over on the Hill Head Plateau for them whilst a much more low-key, welcoming, racing event takes place in closer proximity to the Calshot base, so there will be 2 race areas run at different levels.
Alongside there will be tasters in Calshot Creek, fun racing off the slipway and boat trials for all throughout the 3 days.
Manufacturers will be invited with demo boats, various options available to them of shore- and water-based demonstrations.
We will be inviting all local clubs, via their adult pathway group (such as HISC 'Go Racing' and Hamble 'Women on Water') as a route to focusing on family, at a complete tangent to squad and serious racing. We will be offering a package of entries and club stand v. rescue cover provision.
British Sailing Summit
Inspired by the International sailing Summit http://ISS.SailRacer.org) to be held on the eve of SailFest
Date: 22nd May, Calshot
The British Sailing Summit aims to bring together forward thinkers in the sailing industry, with the theme of ‘Waking up the Sailing Industry – how Sailing needs to modernise, diversify and develop to attract and retain participants’. This day conference and evening dinner will give a platform for key industry stakeholders to debate and illustrate the latest technologies and developments in the sailing sector. Afternoon workshops will bring key industry groups together, aiming to move sailing forward through increased co-operation.
Formal presentations in the morning and break-out workshop groups in afternoon to solve key challenges faced by the sport.
British Sailing Summit will flow into SailFest, now in its third year and proving very popular, a weekend of racing, demo sails, exhibitions and activities.
