Dinghy Classes at the GJW Direct Sailjuice Winter Series

 

A number of classes have decided to run their own Winter Series within the 8 events of the 2014/15 series

During the 2013/14 GJW Direct Winter Series there were over 800 entrants in 95 different classes of dinghy or catamaran.  The following fleets will be competing for their own class winter series during the 2014/15 season, with results extrapolated from the overall results after each event.

LASER (FULL RIG)
The Trident Laser Winter Series 

The Laser full rigs are always support their home events strongly but there are increasing numbers of travellers qualifying for the series.  Prizes this year will not only be for the first Laser but also include the lowest placed boat to compete in 4 or more events of the series.  Laser Results

 

CONTENDER

The Overboard Contender Winter Series - best 4 results from any of the 8 events

Last year 9 Contenders took part in the series in total, with Stuart Jones finishing 17th overall.  For the upcoming series a lot more Contender activity is expected as the fleet prepares for some great international events which are just around the corner.

The next Contender Worlds will be at Medemblik in 2015 and then the Europeans at Highcliffe in 2016. These events attract 140+ entries from all around the world.  Following the success of the 2011 Worlds at Weymouth where 144 Contenders competed the UK fleet is looking forward to a busy few years. FIREBALL

The Lennon Sails Fireball Winter Series - best 4 results from any of the 8 events

Historically a strong fleet at the Winter events, 29 teams in total raced during the 2013/14 season including Olympian Luke Patience at the Datchet Flyer.  It is 10 years since the Fireball Worlds last came to the UK and they are heading for Pwllheli in August 2015, attracting a number of lapsed Fireballers to come out of retirement.  Fireball Results

 

RS300

This brand new class from Devoti already has a strong following and will be in action at most of the winter series events during the winter of 2014/15 D-Zero Results

  

INTERNATIONAL 505

 With WPNSA, Weymouth, hosting the 505 World Championships in July 2015, expect a few of the top names to be out in their Five-ohs over the winter.  505 Results

RS AERO

The RS Sailing/Magic Marine RS Aero Winter Series - best 2 scores from 6 selected events, see association website for more details :

The new RS class will be represented at most of the Winter Events, holding their inaugural winter championships at the Oxford Blue on 3rd January.
