Grafham Grand Prix

Update on 34th Grafham Grand Prix 34, 28th December 2014

(posted Monday 15th January)

New date Sunday 22nd February 2015

For the last few weeks the water level at Grafham Water has been at about 70% of capacity, causing some difficulty with launching and recovery of boats, especially from the areas between the concrete slipways.  The water level is now rising but only slowly, so the problem isn’t expected to have gone away by the scheduled Grand Prix date of 28th December.

Over the last few days we’ve been looking at alternative ways to launch and recover the expected entry of about 180 boats on the day of the Grand Prix but our conclusion is that it’s just not going to work well enough at current water levels.  We’ve considered imposing an entry limit but we think this would need to be so low (about 80 boats) that it’s better to postpone the event until a date when the water level is expected to be higher.  Having discussed the alternatives with Club members and SailJuice, we have concluded that the best date to reschedule the event is Sunday 22nd February 2015 - put the date in your diary NOW!

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling of the Grafham Grand Prix but overall we think that it’s the best thing to do - we look forward to hosting a great event on 22nd February.

Many thanks for your help and understanding.

Kind regards

Dave Philpott

The Grafham Grand Prix takes place this year on Sunday 28th December – perfectly planned to let you get away from the dishes and to blow away the seasonal excesses.  The Grafham Grand Prix constitutes two back-to-back races for competitors across three fleets on three separate tracks. The first race is scheduled for 11.00.  There will be prizes for each of the three handicap fleets (Asymmetrics/Cats, Fast Non Asymmetric Monohulls, Slow Non Asymmetric Monohulls) and separately for any class with more than eight entries.
