Three races wins for Laser Standard sailor Elliot Hanson
A clean sweep of race wins for the British Sailing Team’s Podium Potential sailor Elliot Hanson sees him top the leaderboard on day one of racing for the Laser Standards at the RYA Youth National Championships (Sunday 13 April).
Racing in glorious sunshine and 8-12 knots of breeze in Portland Harbour, the 20-year-old from Macclesfield made light work of the 29 boat fleet to finish the day with a six point lead.
Fellow British Sailing Team member Jack Wetherell finished second after 3-4-2 for today’s efforts, while Henry Wetherell sits in third.
Michael Beckett, who has two RYA Youth National Championship titles under his belt after winning the 2012 regatta in the Laser Radial and last year’s event in the Laser Standard, lies fourth, well within touching distance of defending his RYA Youth National crown.
Racing for all other classes begins tomorrow (Monday 14th) with the warning signal for the first races not before 11.25am. The final day of racing for the Laser Standards is Thursday (17 April), while for the other five classes racing finishes on Friday (18 April).
