Two races, races seven to eight, were delivered to the 8 Metre fleet in Helsinki today where the Nordea Private Banking 8mR Worlds reached close to its final point.
The fifth day of the 8 Metre Worlds was raced in more calm winds than days before – the average wind from NW with velocity of 10 knots and shallow waves caused not so much challenge during the races done in mostly cloudy and with some minor showers conditions. In the afternoon the fleet got already some sunshine getting over the finishing line after the second race of the day.
Leader Hollandia NED-1 owned by Ruud van Hilst had a successful day again as claiming victory in race seven plus a second in eighth and retains lead with 10 points in overall. Four points behind is Lafayette GBR-2 owned by Murdoch McKillop finishing second and third today. Yquem II SUI-2 owned by Jean Fabre, the day’s other race winner was third in the first race and is only two points behind Lafayette. The same top three remains also in Coppa d’Italia, but only one point difference between second and third position.
In Sira Cup top three remains the same as it was yesterday after 6 races. Raven CAN-25 owned by Brian Gooderham holds the firm lead in fine style with a pair of wins today with 30 points in total. Luna FIN-17 owned by Harri Roschier was second in race seven and third in eighth securing the second position in overall with 43 points. The situation between third and fourth position is a bit challenging as only one point difference between Sira N-33 helmed by H.M King Harald V of Norway as third and Silja FIN-17 helmed by Henrik Thelen as fourth.
In Neptune fleet Falcon K-20 owned by Jan Willem Ypma holds his firm lead with style – pair of wins today and excluding fourth from yesterday as his worst result with 8 points in total. Equally 17 points do have Anne Sophie GER-15 owned by Hanns-Georg Klein as a second after a pair of second positions today and Aun J-1 owned by Yutaka Kobayashi finishing as third and fourth, his worst result of the regatta.
In Fleet First Rule Elfe II H-9 owned by Andi Lochbrunner, as the only competitor, has been persistent and sailing in style with his gaff boat.
One more day of racing remains tomorrow, on Saturday 3rd at Nordea Private Banking 8mR Worlds to find out the World Champions on 8 Metre boats.
