The same area where racing took place yesterday is in northern side of Isosaari and covered from the open sea winds and waves. While setting the course the wind was blowing with speed of 14 knots.

 

It was challenging both for the sailors and Race Committee to get a successful start for the first race as wind was shifting a lot and ruing the correct starting line. The first sequence was going on to start at 11 a.m. while wind shifted and right before the start RC raised the AP to wait for the more steady wind. After 20 minutes waiting the line and course were set and the fleet was ready for racing. But probably being anxious to get to the course they caused a general recall to start the next sequence with black flag. Being more careful the next attempt was finally successful with clear start at 11.27 a.m. With wind speed of 12 to 16 knots, the first boat over the finishing line was HOLLANDIA NED-1 owned by Ruud van Hilst after 1 hr and 3 minutes racing. 18 seconds behind was LAFAYETTE GBR-2 owned by Murdoch McKillop followed by YQUEM II SUI-2 owned by Jean Fabre. With this fifth race completed Nordea Private Banking 8mR Worlds ensured the championship status.

 

The start of the second race was 15 minutes after the last boat of the first race was finished. The RC was lucky to start this race in the first attempt even there were five boats over the line, but all of them corrected their mistake. These boats were WANDA NOR-38, SIRA N-33, SILJA FIN-9, SPHINX FIN-4 and ASTRA II RUS-4. During the racing there was a collision between KATRINA FIN-14 owned by Hannu Kahonen and WANDA NOR-38 owned by Magne Brekke in the gates. Wanda retired from the race after this collision and Katrina was disqualified from the race after the protest hearing. The first boat over the finishing line was YQUEM II SUI-2 owned by Jean Fabre after 1 hr and 2 minutes racing followed by LAFAYETTE GBR-2 behind 42 seconds. The third in the finish was Hollandia NED-1 behind 53 seconds from the winner. After the 6th race was done, the worse score was excluded from boat’s series.

 

In the evening there was an awarding ceremony and Viking Party after in the clubhouse of Helsingfors Segelsällskap, on island Liuskasaari. Sailors were having fun until midnight as there will be lay day on Thursday. The racing will continue on Friday at 11:00 a.m. local time.
