Tuesday morning in Helsinki was cloudy. On island Liuskasaari, home for the organizing club Helsingfors Segelsällskap, weather forecast promised strengthening winds and some showers.
As the wind from East with the speed of 16 knots will cause high waves on the area L, where the racing took place yesterday, Race Committee decided to choose the area G for racing to avoid high waves. This area is in northern side of Isosaari and covered from the open sea winds and waves. As approaching to the area some minor showers appeared but the air was warm and steady wind was blowing with speed of 16 knots.
The first start of the second day was successful and 27 boats went to the racing course at 11 a.m. Following the same course every day - to the up-mark, then in downwind back to the gates with pretty spinnakers on and then the second time to the up-mark again to sail then in good speed over the finishing line – the first boat over the finishing line was YQUEM II SUI-2 (owner Jean Fabre) after 58 minutes sailing followed by HOLLANDIA NED-1 (owner Ruud van Hilst) and LAFAYETTE GBR-2 (owner Murdoch McKillop). Not so lucky was ELFE II H-9 (owner Andi Lochbrunner) as there was man overboard and press boat gave them outer help so they got DNF to the results for this race. Fortunately no human injuries followed.
The second race started with even stronger wind of 20 knots from East 12.40 p.m. Still all 27 boats on the starting line there were 3 boats over the line during the starting procedure – ILDERIM FIN-16, LARA FIN-10 and WINDY FIN-8. WINDY FIN-8 (owner Jyrki Halonen) got OCS to the results as did not correct being over the line. HOLLANDIA NED-1 strengthened his leader position as being the first over the finishing line after 56 minutes racing. LAFAYETTE GBR-2 was the second one, 46 seconds behind and RAVEN CAN-25 (owner Brian Gooderham) was third, 2 minutes and 43 seconds behind from the winner. There were some technical problems for the boat ANNE SOPHIE GER-15 (owner Hanns-Georg Klein) as finishing without their main sail on and for YQUEM II SUI-2 (owner Jean Fabre) – they were forced to break the race as needed outer help to get back to the marina.
