WPNSA ready for IDFS Worlds

There is one day to go until the 2011 IFDS Worlds get underway on the 2012 Paralympic waters of Weymouth and Portland and the excitement is really ramping up!

The excitement is ramping up at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy as the countdown to the 2011 IFDS Worlds enters the last day!

With racing due to get underway at 10.55am tomorrow (Sunday 3 July), WPNSA has been a hive of activity all week as some 160 sailors from 30 countries, many of whom have stayed in Dorset since the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta last month, ready themselves for six days of competition.

Media interest in the event is high with photographers and journalists from all over the world seeking accreditation to cover what is the final chance for countries to qualify their place for the 2012 Paralympic Games, which take place at the venue next September.

To also raise the profile of the event to local audiences, IFDS President Linda Merkle last night conducted a live interview speaking to famous Round the World yachtsman, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, on BBC Radio Solent’s H2O Show, while event director, the RYA’s Tim Hall, has this morning been on another local radio station, Wave 105, discussing the significance of what is going on this week.

With registration closing at 1pm today, final entry numbers will be confirmed ahead of the practice race at 3pm. The official opening ceremony will then take place from 6pm.
