Weymouth welcomes a 141 Contenders to the UK
Contender National & World Championships
13th – 22nd of July 2011
WPNSA-WEYMOUTH, UK
General Information
Weymouth and Portland National Academy is pleased to welcome you to your National & World Championships 2011. Please find in this booklet some general information that we thought might help you during your stay with us.
INTERNATIONAL CONTENDER UK CHAIRMANS WELCOME
On behalf of the UK Contender Fleet I would like to extend my warm welcome to all attending the 41st Contender World Championships in Weymouth.
We are especially delighted that, at time of writing, we are fast approaching the record entry of 146 boats at Garda Italy in 2004, especially in these times of austerity. We are therefore extremely appreciative of all the competitors and helpers who have travelled long distances to get here from the eleven Nations around the world.
In return the UK class have arranged the best venue in the United Kingdom for these championships, venue for the 2012 Olympic Sailing. We have also an excellent social programme where we can all meet up with our friends from past
Championships and share our days sailing experiences.
We hope you all have an enjoyable regatta and exceed your personal goals and aspirations and I can personally assure you that I have booked the weather well in advance so expect the best conditions for contender sailing.
Finally, my thanks go to all involved with the organisation and running of the regatta. Please do not hesitate to make contact with a UK Class Association Representative should you have any queries or problems during the week, we would be delighted to assist in making this the best Contender World championships we possibly can.
Nick Noble
UK Class Association Chairman

Things to do
The WPNSA is lucky enough to be in the heart of the famous Jurassic coast, England’s first natural world heritage site. This means there are fantastic walks and biking available from our door step or if you would rather you can visit the classic sea side resort of Weymouth, with its beach and idyllic leisure harbour which nestles perfectly alongside the rugged "Isle" of Portland, here you will find numerous shops and restaurants along with many activities run throughout the summer months. For more information please ask at our reception were you will find a number of leaflets on things to do in the area.
