Alongside to the actual Open Europeans, the event provides the audience, the sailors and friends of sailing with various activities.
At the shoreline one can find the Baltic Sea Pavilion (Itämeripaviljonki in Finnish).
"The pavilion has the best view over the races", says the host, Hannu Hoviniemi.
The terrace is an excellent place for the audience to follow the races, have a cup of coffee or some cold beverages from the cafe and enjoy the atmosphere of the competitions. All medal races can be seen from here.
The idea of the Pavilion is also to make people aware of the situation of the Baltic Sea. Here one can find a shop that sells nautical styled products from labels like SavetheC, Slam and IVANAhelsinki. Ten percent of the actual income of each bought product goes to the welfare of the Baltic Sea.
Children are very welcome, too. The pavilion offers activities for children, such as jewellery making.
Next to the Baltic Sea Pavilion stands the activity area hosted by the Finnish sailing and boating association (Suomen Purjehdus ja Veneily). This is an excellent place to try actual sailing with an instructor, regardless of age or sailing skills.
Other activities include a sailing simulator and a test area for radio-controlled sailboats.
"A lot of families try sailing together. Afterwards they come back with a smile and the desire to go sailing again", say the hosts of the area.
