The  preparations for the Helsinki 2011Open Europeans are advancing as planned. Now we are focusing on the detailed design phase, where all the race activities on the water and ashore will be put together into a detailed execution plan. The recruiting of volunteers is going on continuously and some more people are needed to help with the arrangements, especially ashore. The allocation of tasks to the volunteers is work in progress.

The construction works for the final service and race management area will start in the beginning of June and everything will be ready for competitors, sponsors and spectators well before the end of June.

Sponsoring contracts have been signed with Scandic Hotels, Audi, Niemi transports, Kataja Events and ProSail Magazine. And some more to come.

ACCOMMODATION

We want to remind you to make hotel reservations soon. We can offer you a limited number of rooms to an attractive rate. First come – first serve. Book no later than 22 April. After that, they will charge another much higher rate. Don't hesitate to contact us or Scandic if you have any enquires about the bookings.

VOLUNTEERS

We have volunteers from all over Finland and a group from Estonia with experience from Laser Championships and other major events. Several seminars and workshops will be held during the next months to train our staff. If you want to be one of the volunteers please sign up on our website www.helsinkisailracing.fi or contact us.

CONDITIONS IN HELSINKI

Right now the temperature is -14 deg.C and there is more snow in Helsinki than we have had for many years. That is a bad thing for the ice sailors, they would need some clean ice for their National Championships to be sailed in February. But don't worry, the ice and snow will disappear in time for the Open Europeans.
