The early wind does seem to be fading and so it could be a long day afloat.
It's the penultimate day of the Laser Masters World Championships and the weather so far seemed to have bucked yesterday's predictions of a drift off and instead Hayling Bay seemed to be promising another fair racing day, but how much of that is an illusion, only time will tell....
On the race areas already this morning there was around 8 knots of breeze around start time but that has dropped a little already.
The forecasts are a litttle non-committal, 4-6 knots from the NW becoming, as they say, light and variable.
Best hope does seem to be later in the afternoon, but patience will be required on all fronts.
Among those who have now eked out a comfortable lead in their classes Wolfgang Gerz will be focussed until the end, but in the Laser Standards Grand Masters has a 13 points margin over Peter Vessella after yesterday's telling BFD's for third placed Peter Sundelin (SWE) and second placed Peter Vessella (USA). And 13 points is also the lead for Keith Wilkins (GBR) whose 11pts aggregate in the Great Grand Masters counts no score worse than third. This venerable duo may be among the few who could be quietly content if the programme is curtailed, remembering that two races today and tomorrow would be required to reach the 10 race complement which allows a second discard.
