After a windy opening Monday then two days lost to strong winds, it was a different set of skills which were tested today as Races 3 and 4 were completed and the first discard of the series kicks in
Big shifts in direction and changes in wind pressure made for a very testing second day of racing at the Laser Masters World Championships off Hayling Island Sailing Club.
With winds from W'ly and WNW'ly of between 5 and 15 knots and shifts of up to 40 degrees all age divisions in both Laser Radial and Standard fleets completed two races.
After a big wind shift the Laser Standard Grand Masters had a delay while their course was re-laid, but the breeze changed back and so it had to be changed again.
In the Radial fleet Auckland's Scott Leith posted a second and first to hold his overall lead in the Apprentice Masters.
Adonis Bougiouris (GRE) also still holds on to his overall lead in the Apprentice Masters Standard fleet after his second and fourth today keeps him ahead of Australia's Brett Beyer.
San Francisco's Peter Vessella opened on Monday with two first places drawing on his strength in the big breeze and waves, but returned a solid 1,7 today to lead by three points with one discard applied.
Arnaud Hummel (NED) remains the dominant force in the Standards Masters fleet after their second day of qualifying. He counts three firsts, discarding the second he scored in Race 3, the first race today. That keeps him two points ahead of defending title holder Scott Ferguson (USA) who went 6,1 today.
