On hold

At 1000hrs Racing's on hold at Largs, under indefinite postponement.

From no wind to too much wind. That is the unfortunate scenario this morning as the Laser Radial World Chmpionships enter the final day of scheduled comeptition. On the race area down to the north end of the Great Cumbrae Island, the safety  boat team delegated to go and monitor the wind and sea states have been recording mean windspeeds of more than 28knots and gusts well in excess of 35. The nearby crane just half a mile down the coast from Largs Yacht Haven was getting more than 45 early this morning.

There is some promise offered by the forecasts and the overhead has cleared a little bit during the course of the early morning. Forecasts suggest the breeze should die later in the morning back to a more manageable 17-20kts, but the problem is that in this easterly wind blowing off the hills is that there is very often more wind than forecast.

As it stands then the fleets are on hold with the race management teams, coaches and competitors all standing by for any improvement.
