Gosport Regatta can trace its roots back to 19th Century, when at the age of 14 Princess Victoria became joint patron, with her mother the Duchess of Kent, of the ‘Anglesey Races and Regattas’ which were held in Stokes Bay on 6 and 7 August 1833!  In order to attract people to Anglesey an area of Gosport, a race course was put down. At the first race on the 28th August 1832 the Senior Steward was Lord Charles Wellesley [of the famous Family]. There were six runners over a distance of one mile, the winner being "Fleur-de-Lys".
