The Sailing Software Alliance (SSA), representing the leading providers of software systems to sailing clubs and events, held its first Club Workshop at Hollowell Sailing Club, Northampton last week.
With its theme of "How Software Can Increase Participation in Sailing", 22 attendees representing a range of Midlands clubs, the RYA and SSA members, enjoyed an interactive evening of sharing how software is helping individual clubs with administration, member engagement and reporting tasks.
A key theme across the different sessions was how the SSA members are working together to integrate their various systems to help improve the user experience and significantly help improve the participation reporting. The prototype SSA participation dashboard, that will draw data from various sources to automatically produce participation reports and analysis created much interest, and appears to answer many of the challenges clubs face with their ever growing data sets.
"Hollowell Sailing Club was delighted to host the Autumn SSA workshop. Members of the SSA described each of the software products and highlighted the benefits of each. Those present had the opportunity to hear about challenges facing other sailing clubs in relation to administration of memberships and recording and reporting on participation in a range of activities. It was particularly valuable to hear first hand from RYA's Sports Development Manager, Duncan Truswell, about how participation data is being used to strengthen the case for support of the sport. It was clear that this is no easy task in light of possible change in priorities following next years' general election. The event was particularly useful in prompting us to think more about using technology to improve the way in which we understand our members needs better and hopefully make sure they enjoy more of what we have on offer as a club."
Nicola Wilkinson, Commodore
"Great to see how positive all the clubs were to using different software and the high level of actual usage for the various SSA packages."
