Day two of the Sail for Gold Regatta

Sailors look forward to much more of the same on day two at WPNSA

After a cracking opening day to the Sail for Gold Regatta yesterday (Monday 2 June), sailors across the eight Olympic and two Paralympic classes can look forward to much of the same on day two with an average South Westerly 10-12 knots with gusts of up to 16 knots throughout the day.

With the Sonar class taking to the water in today’s morning session (10.30am), Hannah Stodel gives her views on what was a fantastic opening day to the regatta for the British Sailing Team Sonar trio.

“We are really pleased with our opening day to the regatta and the four race wins. It’s nice to be back racing here in Weymouth and Portland and with the other British boats. It’s a great turnout to have five British Paralympic boats competing in the Sonar class this week who are continually pushing us, but it’s great to start the week off at the front of the fleet.”

“We didn’t expect to start the regatta of so strong, we just went out and did what worked for us, stuck to our processes and just enjoyed our time out on the water sailing.”

Having won the Sail for Gold title for the past three years with her team of John Robertson and Stephen Thomas, Stodel admits it would be a great a feeling if they were able to win a fourth Sail for Gold title on home waters.

“It would be great to win out fourth consecutive Sail for Gold title here in Weymouth and Portland but we still have a long way to go. The forecast for the rest of the week is looking cracking, especially tomorrow (Wednesday 3 June) – we love a good windy Sail for Gold so hopefully it won’t disappoint.”
