The Royal Western Yacht Club was originally founded in 1827 as The Port of Plymouth Royal Clarence Regatta Club. It was then named to it's current name in 1833. The Club House exists in a purpose built premises on the waterfront overlooking the Mount Batten Peninsula and across the Plymouth Sound, opened in 1989 following a move from the Royal South Western Club House. The original Club House was destroyed by enemy aircraft in 1942. The club offers club racing all year round and plays host to some large sailing events, including various J/Class related events and championships. Also offering training events and a fully featured function room for multiple uses, The Royal Western's versatility stands out as a factor making for a brilliant Yacht Club.
