Stena Line and DFDS ensure plain sailing to Sail for Gold Regatta

Sailors looking to compete at the Sail for Gold Regatta – part of the newly-formed EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup – will be able to take advantage of reduced-fare ferry deals to the UK thanks to a tie-up with DFDS Seaways and Stena Line.

Sail for Gold Regatta (9-13 June) at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, is the third leg of the new EUROSAF circuit, which is based on five established regattas in Europe and which aims to provide increased opportunities for World Class competition in the Olympic and Paralympic Classes.

The event, hosted by the RYA and WPNSA and held on the waters where 2012 Olympic and Paralympic fates were decided, follows on from the Delta Lloyd Regatta in Medemblik, the Netherlands, from 21-25 May.

With discounted ferry deals from mainland Europe, and with the WPNSA site free of charge for training for all competing sailors from Monday 3 June, it’s now even easier for competitors to race in Holland and then cross the English Channel for the next stage of EUROSAF competition in Weymouth and Portland.

Stena Line is offering a discount of 20% off economy and flexi-fares for cars, passengers and cabins, plus free trailers (up to 8m) on day sailings, and a 50% discount for trailers (up to 8m) on overnight sailings on its Harwich-Hook of Holland route between 26 May and 17 June.

Meanwhile DFDS Seaways is offering a discount of 10% off economy fares for cars and vans or cars with trailers on routes between Calais or Dunkirk and Dover.

Booking codes and details will be made available to sailors and registered event coaches on entry to the regatta.

Entries to the Sail for Gold Regatta are already open at www.sailforgold.co.uk with early entry fees available up until 10 May 2013.

Tim Hall, Sail for Gold Event Director commented, “We thank Stena Line and DFDS Seaways for their support with discounted ferry crossings.  We’re sure this will really help reduce the costs for sailors travelling to and from Sail for Gold and ensure good travel logistics between the EUROSAF series events either side.

“There is ample time for sailors to travel to Weymouth and Portland after Delta Lloyd Regatta and take advantage of some free training prior at WPNSA to Sail for Gold, and equally good time to travel to Kiel after our event.”
