The biggest sailing event of the season is drawing near: Only five more days remain to secure the „Early Entry Fee“ for Kieler Woche 2013 (22 to 30 June).
The world’s biggest sailing regatta will hold races in the ten Olympic sailing disciplines (including the new Olympic women’s skiff 49erFX and Nacra 17 for mixed multihull crews), the paralympic 2.4-Metre class, all in all 17 international classes (among them the swift Musto skiffs and the B/one, the new one-design class built by Germany’s biggest boat yard), and 18 offshore categories (ORC/ORC-club/one-design and multihulls).
Kieler Woche 2013 will be the fourth event in the series of the first EUROSAF Champions Sailing Cup (ECSC) after Lake Garda (Italy), Medemblik (The Netherlands) and Weymouth (U.K.). The Olympic part of Kieler Woche (from 22 to 26 June) is last but one before the final ECSC event in October in La Rochelle (France).
The scoring system is a novelty: After a fleet racing series (from fleet sizes of 60 boats, groups will be formed) and races of the Gold fleet (25 boats), the first six will carry forward their overall position to the final race (one to six bullet points).Given the simple scoring of the final race (one to six points), each of the final participants is in the position to become winner overall as there is no room for tactical games. Ties after the finals will be decided on by the better final score.
The catering system for the athletes has been improved to make sure that not only on the water sailors will find everything to their liking at Kieler Woche. Hungry athletes will have the full range choice of from barbecues at the club tents and goodies in the Sailors Lounge to specialties served in the VIP Lounge. After racing, sailors will be served exclusive food at reasonable prices between 5 and 7 p.m. daily in the Sailors Lounge. The class associations will have affordable opportunities to meet with their associates in the pagoda-style club tents and enjoy the view across the marina.
So, whether it’s bring your own, buy on site (a Euro per sausage) or enjoy the food served in the Sailors Lounge (five Euro) – in terms of BBQ meat, the organizers will make sure all sailors get the food they need at prices they can afford. And at the top of the range, the VIP areas for partners and sponsors will cater for athletes and guests on invitation only.
