Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic win Legends' Trophy

Bringing together the best of the best from the history of the 470 Class - the Legends' Trophy saw past Olympic, World and European Champions compete in a fun showdown.

Serious and competitive, but also a time to pay tribute and honour the world's best 470 sailors was the focus of the racing.

Thirty-four former and current Olympic and World Champions competed in the Legends' Trophy invitational event. Racing got underway soon after 1200 hours, with a race format of six of short races close to shore with live commentary. The top ten boats after six races advanced through to the final Legends' Trophy deciding race.

An impressive win in every one of their races gave victory to Sime Fantela/Igor Marenic (CRO), with Gabrio Zandona/Andrea Trani (ITA) in second and New Zealand's Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie (NZL) in third.

Amongst the line-up of legends were the first ever 470 World Champions, brothers Yves Carre/Herve Carre who won the 1970 470 World Championship held in Lacanau, France. The silver medallists from that Championship Philippe Follenfant/Hubert Follenfant were also competing today.
