Continuing the delivery of support to 470 teams from around the world, the International 470 Class Association is pleased to announce its 2013 Development Programmes.
The 470 Class programmes are focused on improving the ability of sailors through high quality coaching and race training and to provide financial support to compete at 470 Championships.
2013 will kick off by supporting teams to compete at 470 Championships through the 470 International Solidarity Programme, which focuses on the younger teams from developing 470 nations and provides free entry fees to the 470 Worlds, Europeans, Junior Worlds and Junior Europeans. Equipment support will also be offered through the provision sails to teams competing at the 470 Junior European Championships, taking place in Pwllheli, Great Britain from 14-22 August 2013. Taking place immediately before 470 Junior Championships, our three-day Race Training clinics provide daily briefing and coached race training run by 470 appointed world class coaches and help teams to reach their maximum potential for the Championships. This year, the Junior Race Training Clinic will take place from 24-26 July 2013, immediately before before the 470 Junior World Championships in La Rochelle, France. APPLY BY 14 JULY 2013
All 470 sailors are welcome to apply to these programmes, although the 470 Class’ first priority will be to young teams who are campaigning and those teams from developing sailing nations.
Stanislav Kassarov, 470 Class President commented, “Through the comprehensive development support available, our programmes are also targeted at not only the current 470 campaigners, but also to attract new countries to the 470 Class and support those nations currently developing 470 sailing. We have supported many teams over the past two years from more than 40 nations and the 470 Class is 100% committed to developing and encouraging our sailors.”
The 470 Development Programme also delivers:
André Cornu Grant – up to an EUR1000 grant to the winning girls and boys teams at the 2012 ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships to compete at the 470 Class Junior World Championship or 470 Class World Championship in 2013.
470 Junior Support Programme – financial grants to the youngest women's and men's crew (combined age of skipper and crew) competing in the 470 Junior World Championships and qualified to the gold fleet.
420 Support Programme – supporting the transition from the 420 to the 470, this programme provides free entry fees to the top three girls and boys teams at the 2012 420 World Championships in Austria to compete at either the 2012 470 Junior World Championships or the 2012 470 Junior European Championships.
In addition to the programmes announced above, the 470 Class also runs Regional Training Clinics, which for 2013 will be held in South Africa, and in Myanmar before the 2013 South-East Asian Games, combined clinics with the 420 Class and Coaches Seminars. More details on these will be announced later in the year.
