scheduled to take place on Thursday 23rd (for the Under 11 age group) and Friday 24h May (for the U13 age group) 2013 at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA).
IAPS has teamed up with WPNSA and SailLaser, the RYA accredited onsite sailing school, to provide a series of managed races, designed to test the competitors sailing abilities and competitive instincts.
SailLaser can supply appropriate dinghy clothing and equipment (including wetsuits, spray tops, buoyancy aids and helmets) to competitors who do not have their own. Entrants will have to supply their own appropriate dinghy footwear and towel.
The bespoke IAPS Sailing Regatta trophies (and individual presentation plaques) will be awarded to the top crews in each age category. Participation certificates will also be given to all competitors who take part in the event. IAPS Sailing Regatta merchandise will be available before the event, through this website, and on the day itself.
Competitors need to be currently attending IAPS schools and be trained to RYA Dinghy Sailing Youth Stage 2 (or greater) to enter the regatta. IAPS schools may enter up to four pupils (in same aged pairs) into the U11 and/or U13 events.
The entry cost into the IAPS Sailing Regatta is £45.00 per pupil. This includes an individual competitor’s ticket to the lunchtime buffet, organised by the National Sailing Academy. This year, for the first time, registration and payment is only available online through this SailRacer website. SailRacer is a professional organisation that handles online registration / information / results management for many sailing events across the world, from small scale meetings to international regattas. IAPS, in partnership with WPNSA and SailLaser, is proud to introduce this new system to our management of the forthcoming regatta. Look out for latest news items, merchandise information and Parental Consent forms available for download from the site in the near future.
I would encourage any budding young sailors within your school community to take part in this high profile IAPS sporting event. As with previous years, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and schools will be able to view the registered schools via the navigation tabs in this website. Please look around the website for information and results from the IAPS National Sailing Regatta 2012. More information will follow so remember to bookmark the site.
Hope to see you on the water in 2013!
Mark McCloskey
IAPS Co-ordinator for Watersports
If you have any questions or issues regarding the new online registration format please contact chris.knight@wpnsa.org.uk in the first instance.
Please read the following IAPS National Sailing Regatta 2013 regulations for entry:
1. Schools may enter up to two crew pairs only (in either age category i.e. both U11, both U13 or one pair in each). Please note that the different age category races take place on subsequent days.
2. Competitors must be in pairs. They can alternate their roles in the boat throughout the day. (i.e. helm / crew). They cannot compete individually due to the two person boats they will be sailing.
3. Competitor crews must both attend the same IAPS registered school.
4. Competitors must both have attained RYA Dinghy Sailing Youth Stage 2 qualification (or greater).
5. U13 competitors must have been born after 31st August 1999. U11 competitors must have been born after 31st August 2001.
Note:
Please note that the racing programme will be tailored to match the weather conditions, especially in the event of extreme winds. In this case, a full day’s activity programme will take place using a combination of water based and land based competitive activities.
