We, the event organising committee, the British Dragon Association and the team at the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy are looking forward to welcoming competitors and visitors to the Olympic sailing venue this summer for the South Coast Championships and Edinburgh Cup. It will be a great week of racing with the Race Management team that will also be officiating at the Dragon World Championships to be held at the same venue in September 2013.
The WPNSA is the UK’s finest sailing venue with superb on shore facilities and well protected marina berthing. Race management is very well organised with plenty of Olympic experience on the water and the racing in Weymouth Bay fair with weak tide and true winds. The weather cannot be guaranteed but the end of June is normally quite warm and sunny, so we are hopeful! Given its location close to the Jurassic coast and Dorset countryside the area offers visitors stunning landscapes and beaches to enjoy and plenty of things to do ashore.
Weymouth and Portland has lots of accommodation ideal for sailors wishing to rent a house, apartment or stay in a B&B within easy reach of the venue. There are also hotels close by or you can bring your own- there is plenty of space available in the marina for accommodation afloat (booking ahead advised) and parking for sleeping on wheels within the complex.
